My future Lead Singer...

Ok - Let me set the scene. Last spring, we went to a Surprise Birthday party for Austin's Baseball coach. It was super nice, they had a rented room, food, bar, activities for kids (it was on a golf course so the kids got to Putt balls) and a live Band with dancing. Now keep in mind my daughter Emily, for those of you who don't know her, she is a "special" child who is extremely SHY! She is usually glued to one of my legs and wont talk to people she does not know. Well, for some reason that night, she decided for one very rare moment in her life, to come out of her shell and ROCK OUT! After dinner, the band got on stage and started warming up. We had been milling about, socializing and talking, and the kids had been running in and out of the room from the putting greens to us, so I wasn't super concerned with keeping an eye on her, as I was sure she would not go to far. Suddenly the friend I was talking too pointed behind me and says, "isn't that Emily?" And as I turn around, this is what I see...
I was in shock! And completely speechless! Everyone in the room started to realize what was happening and were soon watching and coming to me and DH to comment on her. They have all tried all season to get Emily to talk to them or play with the siblings, but not one peep out her for months on end. So they were all as shocked as we were. It seems the Band members (we knew the lead singer) had seen Emily standing on the side of the stage and invited her up. They set her up with her own microphone (but had the volume super low so only she could hear her voice) and made room for her to join them. After some time had gone by, a few other little girls ventured up there with her, but after a few minutes they would leave. Not Emily, she stayed up there for 1-1/2 hours!!!! I tried everything to get her down, but she wasn't leaving. Then we noticed she would do these crazy movements with her arms and stomp her feet. When I snuck up on stage to grab some pics, I realized what she was doing. From her vantage point, she was watching everyone on the dance floor dancing. So she was mimicking their dance moves and would step to the mic, sing a few words and then dance a few steps and repeat all night. Finally at 10:30pm, we literally had to drag her off the stage and take her home. She was so exhausted from dancing and singing so much, she was asleep in the car before we got home 3 blocks later. But it is definately a memory DH and I will treasure forever of our little Rock Band Singer. I have video of her up there, and as soon as I figure out how to transfer it and post it, I will.
XOXO
